What was once home to the Police Deputy Sheriff’s Lodge 25 — aka Swiss Hall — is now quickly becoming a housing development with 18 condos + 23 rental homes.

Work is still ongoing at the sister property to Germantown Mill Lofts and anyone who has driven by the development since construction began last year can see for themselves just how fast it’s coming together.

But for those who don’t regularly drive that way to pick up Nord’s donuts or get a drink at Zanzabar, here’s a recap on the project.

🏘️ Swiss Village is an $11 million project by Underhill Associates. Jeff Underhill, president of Underhill Associates, purchased the 12,000-sqft Swiss Hall lodge in 2018 for $800,000.

🏘️ The housing units sit on 2.7 acres of land with rental rates ranging from $850-$2,500 per month. The project represents the first major construction in the St. Joseph neighborhood in decades.

🏘️ The name “Swiss Village” pays homage to the history of the site, which in the 1920s, served as a community center for thousands of Swiss immigrants.

🏘️ This isn’t the first time a developer has tried to redevelop the former police lodge. Local brewery Against the Grain planned to purchase the lodge and construct a restaurant, microbrewery, beer garden + music venue on the property in 2018. Ultimately, the Louisville Metro Planning Commission had concerns about noise disruption in the neighborhood.
