Louisvillians are so good at supporting local that USA Today named Louisville one of the best cities in the US to start a business in 2024.

In honor of our many movers and shakers, we’re asking readers to nominate small businesses they love so we can share them with the whole audience.

We’ll be here to share a new batch of small businesses every month, so bookmark this page to come back for more, especially if you’ve enjoyed our past Small Business Week.

Anchal | 1229 S. Shelby St.
“We work with about 180 artisans, and we have a full-time team of 20. We’ve provided training for over 400 women in the years that we’ve been doing this.”

  • This Shelby Park business helps support artisans in India, importing and selling clothing and textiles in-store and online. Be sure to check back in regularly, as Anchal always has a rotating seasonal collection. Bonus: Check out our interview with Anchal founder Colleen Clines.

Highland Fish Market | Two locations

  • As its name suggests, this business first opened in the Highlands over 25 years ago. Now, it has two locations in Middletown and Deer Park. Shop online or order in-store for fish, shellfish, lobster, and more.

Bodhi Salt Center | 4802 Sherburn Ln.

  • From steam barrels to red light saunas to yoga in a salt room, this wellness center has it all. People of all ages can get in on the fun with Bodhi Salt’s kid salt room, too. Editor’s pick: Try the shirodhara oil treatment.

Six Sisters Boutique | 804 E. Market St.
“Six Sisters believes in southern hospitality with city vibes. Where affordable fashion meets feeling great no matter your individual style. With primarily second hand styles, we keep you looking and feeling great, with room leftover to keep spending small in NuLu.”

  • This curated second hand shop features an always rotating selection of seasonal fashion. Stop by, try some things on, and find your new look.

Body & Soul Personal Training | 1914 Bardstown Rd.
“Potential clients get that personal feel the moment they walk in the door for their initial consultation. They are greeted by name at the door, offered something to drink and a comfortable place to sit while discussing their fitness goals and needs.”

  • Develop a long lasting relationship with a personal trainer to recover after an injury or maintain an exercise routine that works for you. The gym has been a part of the Highlands neighborhood for 20 years.

Gentlemen’s Cut | Two locations
“Gentlemen’s Cut is a locally-owned, men’s salon and spa. We pride ourselves in top-level service, building community and exceeding the expectations of our guests and team.”

  • Get the full treatment with a wash, scalp massage, and hot towel at the English Station or Springhurst locations of this barber.
