If you keep up with local development news — and we know you do — you probably hear a lot about projects when they are announced. But what happens a year later? Or two? These things take time, so we’re here to keep you posted on the latest developments.

Mid City Mall

Just over a year ago, this mall built in the 1960s went up for sale for an undisclosed amount of money.

In July, a zoning certification was filed by Georgia-based developer Gaskins + LeCraw with the Metro Office of Planning for the construction of a 54,000-sqft grocery store and several separate retail buildings.

Several long-time tenants have closed or found new homes, including Nearly New Shop, which closed, and Ramen House, which relocated to Spring Street. The former Nearly New space is now home to Nearly New 2 You, a peddlar’s mall-style collection of vendors with no relation (other than the name) to the previous shop.

Stay tuned for more info — when we know more, you’ll know more.

The extravagant renderings of this Southern Indiana redevelopment turned some heads when they were unveiled two years ago this month. The $1 billion project would turn the former shipyard into a new park complex with an amphitheatre, walkways, fountains, and residential, retail, and office space.

When it was announced, the project was expected to take 10 years, so it’s not surprising there hasn’t been a ton of movement. Last month, the city of Jeffersonville announced it had secured a $20 million grant, one small step towards fully funding the project.
