We cover a lot of development news here at LOUtoday — it can be hard to keep up with it all. That’s why we’re taking a look back at some previously announced projects to see how they’re shaping up.

YachtSea

  • Announced: March 2024
  • Current outlook: Hosting weekly popups at The Merryweather

This nautical-themed bar will serve hot dogs, brats, and oysters along with other bar snacks like fries and nachos, though we still don’t know when it opens. In the meantime, you can get a preview at the Weekly Wiener Wesidency Wednesdays at The Merryweather, 6-10 p.m.

The new campus parking garage will also have space for retail.

Jefferson Community + Technical College

  • Announced: June 2023
  • Current outlook: Construction is nearly complete on the science building

This multi-part development project includes a parking structure, retail space for coffee shops + restaurants, and a 40,000 sqft science building. Crews put the final beams on the science building this month.

Urban Government Center

  • Announced: December 2021
  • Current outlook: TIF district approved

Stop us if you’ve heard about this one before. The Urban Government Center has been in the news on and off for the last seven years, ever since it closed in 2016. A tax-increment funding — aka TIF — district was approved in a Metro Council labor, economic development and appropriations committee meeting in June, allowing the developer to recoup $20.3 million in taxes over the next 20 years. No construction date has been announced.

One Park

  • Announced: October 2019
  • Current outlook: State tax funding preliminarily approved

This large-scale development would bring offices, residential buildings, retail space, a hotel, and a grocery store to the intersection of Lexington Road and Grinstead Drive. The project is expected to cost ~$500 million, with funding through a TIF district approved by the Louisville Metro Council late last year. The state granted similar approvals this February, but no construction date has been announced.
