The zodiac signs as Louisville neighborhoods

Your home, your favorite coffee shop, your daily commute aren’t just written in the skyline — they may be written in the stars.

An aerial view of St. James Court shows the lush trees beginning to turn orange and red. Several buildings are illuminated by street lights. In the distance, the Louisville skyline glows softly.

The real stars of the show in Louisville are its neighborhoods.

One of the most loveable things about Louisville is the distinct character found in each neighborhood, district, and corner of town. They all have their own personalities and purposes — some would say it was written in the stars. Let’s take a look at how our neighborhoods align with the zodiac signs.

Aquarius: The Highlands | Jan. 20- Feb. 18

The unique businesses of the Highlands embody the eclectic nature of an Aquarius. From its various bars, to its boutique hotels, there’s something for nearly everyone in this vibrant neighborhood — and it’s always changing.

Pisces: Germanton-Schnitzelburg | Feb. 19-March 20

The Germantown-Schnitzelburg neighborhood provides the perfect escapist moments for a Pisces to relax. With plenty of bars and restaurants, you could get lost in its culinary scene. The homes there are a blast from the past, while its entertainment venues might have you planning for the future.

Aries: Portland | March 21-April 19

Known as the passionate and confident leader of the zodiac, an Aries would feel right at home in Portland. The neighborhood began as a rival town to Louisville before it was annexed in the 1850s — and that independence still marks the neighborhood today. Stop by Outsider Art Museum for a peak at the passion that permeates Portland.

Taurus: Old Louisville | April 20-May 20

As a lover of loyalty, you’ll feel right at home in Old Louisville. With its ~1,400 Victorian homes, the neighborhood has really stayed true to its roots. There’s a lot of history that’s taken place there over the years, but Old Louisville is still alive and well as home to one of Derby City’s great debates.

Gemini: NuLu | May 21-June 20

The extroverted nature of a Gemini means they tend to get along with all kinds of people — similar to, NuLu. It’s home to some of Louisville’s best new spots — like the recently opened Bar Nada Nada + Goldie’s shop — and also some of its wurst. And when people say “NuLu,” they really mean the new part — the neighborhood is constantly growing and changing.

Cancer: Crescent Hill | June 21-July 22

The sentimental and gentle nature of this sign is the perfect match for Crescent Hill. The picturesque serenity of the Crescent Hill Reservoir is a welcoming site for a stroll — and also if you need a place to let it all out. Plus, the neighborhood’s hilly streets are perfect for a Sunday drive. Pro tip: Buckle up because it could get bumpy.

Leo: Butchertown | July 23-Aug. 22

The Butchertown neighborhood is a perfect fit for the welcoming and proud nature that a Leo embodies. The neighborhood’s Lynn Family Stadium provides a welcoming site to those driving into Derby City from I-64. Its history goes back decades, but nowadays it’s considered one of the most “up-and-coming” neighborhoods in America.

Virgo: Shelby Park | Aug. 23-Sept. 22

This earth sign has very practical and grounded qualities, making the Shelby Park neighborhood a perfect fit. With historical features — like its Carnegie library that could soon be revived — the neighborhood is grounded in the past but not bounded by it. It’s a place for growth — Logan Street Market is a new business incubator — and there are tons of new businesses and restaurants popping up all the time.

Libra: Russell | Sept. 23-Oct. 22

Russell’s active yet small-town vibe is just as balanced as a Libra. It’s a great place to stay active with several parks that are planned for the futureand it used to be home to Louisville’s only Major League Baseball team. And like Old Louisville, Russell has its fair share of Victorian charm too.

Scorpio: Beechmont | Oct. 23-Nov. 21

The aura of Beechmont’s picturesque Southern Parkway perfectly encapsulates this water sign. With iconic landmarks like Colonial Gardens and neighborhood spots like Annie’s Cafe that aren’t hard on your wallet, the Beechmont neighborhood provides the perfect welcome for its crown jewel — the 725+ acres of Iroquois Park.

Sagittarius: Clifton | Nov. 22-Dec. 21

As an adventure seeker, you’ll be able to make a speedy getaway from Clifton with close access to both I-64 + I-71. But before you go, you might want to grab a seat at the award-winning Silver Dollar if you’re a bit peckish, or take a walk like a chicken would if you’re — well, um— a bit peckish.

Capricorn: Downtown | Dec. 22- Jan. 19

With how hardworking you are, you’ll be pleased to hear there are plenty of spots in Downtown Louisville to network and work remotely. After work, you can stop at the Palace Theatre for a concert or the KFC Yum! Center for a ballgame — and on your way you can always count on a friendly face to say hello or lend a helping hand.
