UofL's campus

UofL’s Belknap Campus.

Students at the University of Louisville return to campus today + if you’re new to Louisville this semester, welcome. If you’re a returning student, graduation is right around the corner. Take that, senioritis!

Whether you’re a student currently attending class, or you’re a parent with a student on campus, we’re going to give you a rundown of what to expect this semester, from new housing to sports activities + Covid-19 safety protocols.

Housing

UofL recently unveiled its first gender-inclusive student housing, called Belknap Residence Hall. The 452-bed facility sits in the heart of campus + is part of an $87 million project replacing 2 old housing and administrative buildings. The university plans to finish the second dorm, which will be located across the street from Belknap, next year.

WaterCooler

UofL Athletics’ new tailgate location, The Alley, is set to open Sat., Sept. 11. The $850,000 attraction on the corner of Boxley + S. Floyd was built by Buffalo Construction Inc., and will feature a turf green for yard games like cornhole, food + beverage options, live entertainment, and a courtyard that can accommodate a few thousand fans.

Coronavirus

Mask up, Cardinals. All university members are required to wear masks in public, indoor spaces regardless of vaccination status. The university plans to suspend its mask requirement once the campus population is 80% vaccinated. Get vaccinated on campus here.

Programming

UofL’s annual preseason basketball event, “Louisville Live,” will be held on Sat., Sept. 18 at Churchill Downs. Gates open at 5 p.m. for “Downs After Dark: Horses and Hoops.” Around 7:15 p.m., a portable basketball court will be placed on the plaza at Gate 1 where the men’s and women’s basketball teams will be featured. Tickets are free for UofL students + $12 for non-students.

#ProTip: Watch your step. According to student superstition, walking on the cardinal birds painted on the sidewalks will cause you to fail the semester.
