This time of year, mocktails are all the rage. Thousands of Americans participate in Dry January — a month-long challenge that encourages people to refocus, cleanse their systems + abstain from alcohol consumption.

The challenge can be tough, so we decided to round up a few local offerings that go beyond a rocks glass of cranberry juice.

Sip on mocktails made with spiritless bourbon, explore full sober menus + check out a locally made superfood cocktail mixer.

Out and about

Planet of the Tapes

This movie-themed bar will make any of its cocktails into booze-free drinks. It also serves housemade sodas in flavors like cucumber dill and mango pineapple.

Cultured Cheese Shop

Try Modica shrubs (more on those later) mixed into craft mocktails like the blueberry lavender lemon drop or tart cherry.

Epiphany

If you’re looking for a hidden gem bar, Epiphany is your answer. The Phony Espresso Negroni features coffee, cane sugar, and bubbles, while the Pearly Green Light is made with matcha and coconut cream.

Canary Club

This Shelby Park spot has a full N/A menu for January, but options are available all year round. Try a non alcoholic IPA, or sip a crafted cocktail like the “I Barley Know ‘Er,” made with roasted barley tea.

Make at home

Modica

Created by two Louisvillians, Modica is a line of cocktail or mocktail mixers made with superfoods.

These better-for-you mixers are packed with naturally-sourced ingredients, vitamins + antioxidants. Mix flavors like Cucumber Aloe Margarita, Turmeric Ginger Mule, or Tart Cherry Old Fashioned with club soda to make a superfood spritzer that tastes like a cocktail.
