When DeShawn King and Isaiah Jones met at Louisville’s Central High School, they never thought they’d be cofounding a pharmacy in Louisville’s West End together. Now they, along with lead pharmacist Michaela Brooks, PharmD have done exactly that.

Good Brothers Pharmacy, located on W. Market Street, is a full-service pharmacy and, as far as the founders know, Louisville’s first Black-owned pharmacy in at least 100 years. Here’s just a sample of the services they provide:

  • Prescription refills, including free delivery to your home or office
  • Retail items like first aid kits, vitamins, and over-the-counter medicine
  • Blood pressure + HIV testing
  • Services for expecting mothers
  • Vaccines

As King likes to say, Good Brothers can do everything a big box pharmacy can do, “only better.”

Good Brothers was founded with the intent to serve all of Louisville, but with an initial focus on West End neighborhoods. “I have to take care of my own backyard,” said King. According to Brooks, it can take an average of three bus transfers to get to a pharmacy in Louisville’s West End. The area is considered a pharmacy desert.

Good Brothers was opened with the help of funding from both WEOP, The West End Opportunity Partnership, and the METCO loan program through the Louisville Economic Development Alliance.

If you’d like to help support Good Brothers through the second half of its first year in business, the best way is to transfer your prescription. The pharmacy takes all major insurance, plus Medicare, Medicaid, and related monthly stipend vouchers.
