5 bourbons you can only find in Kentucky (for now)

These labels are distilled in such small batches they’re nearly impossible to find outside the Bluegrass State.

While Kentucky exports its bourbons to 93 countries across the globe, some labels are distilled in such limited capacities you’ll only find them in our state. | Brent Schanding/LOUtoday

Fun fact: Kentucky distills nearly 100 labels of bourbon these days, but a few are produced in such limited batches they can only be found locally.

Here are five bourbons you’ll find almost exclusively in the Bluegrass State:

Brother’s Wright Distilling Co. Reserve Coal Mine Aged
This Appalachian entry to the bourbon market produces just 7,500 barrels each year on a farm overlooking the Tug Fork River in Pike County. Compare that to the 500,000 barrels produced yearly at Jim Beam, and you’ll understand why this small-batch bourbon is difficult to get your hands on.

Coal Picker Distillery Single Barrel
Pot distilled, aged in a private rick house + bottled by a team in the former Muhlenberg County coal camp John Prime famously sang about, there were fewer than 300 bottles of this bourbon available in 2023 — and they all sold out fast.

Lythgoe Bourbon Founder’s Collection
This Louisville-based distillery produces just two labels, including this small-batch blend that’s been aged for nine years. While there’s a plan to roll it out elsewhere, it can currently only be found at a few locations in Louisville, including Taste Fine Wines + Bourbon in Nulu and Springhurst Liquor Barn.

The Old SteelHouse Distillery Blueprint Series 002
The Samuels family began distilling this bourbon in Coxs Creek back in 1844 (only pausing during Prohibition). The label releases limited quantities each November — but only across Kentucky — making it a sought-after item for bourbon lovers outside the state.

Trackside Distilling Co. Founder Release 2025
This Crestwood-based bourbon label is just getting out of the starting gates. It debuted in April 2025 and for now, you’ll only find it at the Kentucky Derby Museum Gift Shop + very select retailers across Kentucky.
