Louisville’s kids are about to head back to school — but why should they have all the fun? Derby City is full of opportunities for life-long learners to pick up new skills, explore a new hobby, or improve on what they already know.
We’ve rounded up a list of classes to fill your schedule this semester. Think of us as your LOU guidance counselor.
This Anchorage studio offers drop-in painting sessions with weekly specials, including half-off canvases on Tuesdays and BOGO large canvases 6-8 p.m. on Thursdays. If you prefer a bit more guidance — and some refreshments — consider the Paint + Sip classes.
If you’re interested in taking your art to the next level, consider a multi-session class in oils, watercolors, or acrylics. You can also drop by for single-session workshops like abstract watercolors, calligraphy for beginners, or broom making.

Construction began on June 17 on the north side of the 900 + 1000 blocks of East Market Street, and that work continues. Starting on Thursday, Aug. 8, work will begin on the 700 + 800 blocks, impacting businesses like the NuLu Marketplace, La Bodeguita, and AC Hotel.
Project officials say that businesses can remain open during construction, and pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the process.
The $12 million price tag is being funded by the Louisville Metro, state, and federal governments.
The full project is tentatively scheduled to be complete on Oct. 10, 2025, but may fluctuate to accommodate festivals and events in the area.
Bonus: Get a sneak peek at how the new NuLu will look over on our social media.
If you’re looking to get a bit more formal with your education, UofL allows continuing studies students to take up to 24 credits without pursuing a degree. If you’re 65 or older, many of those credits are available tuition-free.
And if all else fails, you can always learn something at your local library.
