Glow lights at Lynn Family Stadium

If you’re driving eastbound on I-64 near Exit 6, it’s hard to miss the warm glow illuminating Lynn Family Stadiumit kind of looks like the surface of Mars.

The orange light beaming from the soccer field comes from the grow light fixtures Soccer Holdings, LLC recently invested in to help maintain the pitch throughout the season. For the last two years, the field had to be re-sodded mid-season.

Here are four fast facts about the field + grow lights:

  • The grass on the field is a mix of Bermuda + rye which grow opposite of each other in summer and winter
  • Lynn Family Stadium’s roof blocks regular sunlight — especially in the west corner where the lights are mostly kept
  • Until summer, the lights will glow on 24/7
  • European soccer giants like Manchester City + Liverpool use the same technology on their fields as well as

The 2022 Lou City FC season kicks off on March 12 followed by Racing Louisville on March 18.
