Louisville is the fourth-"rudest” city in America according to a new study from Preply, an online language-learning platform.
Our response: Where’s Stephanie Tanner when you need her?
The study surveyed people from 46 cities across the US on how often they see others doing rude things, like talking on speakerphone in shared spaces, not letting people merge, and ignoring strangers instead of saying hello.
Louisville was given a “Rudeness Score” of 8.72 out of 10 — landing Derby City in the top five rudest cities for 2024, a 10-spot jump from 2022. Austin, Texas, Charlotte, NC, and Chicago also all grew increasingly more rude in the last two years.
With that said, we’d like to respectfully disagree and kindly offer a few explanations regarding our “rudeness.” After all, everyone has an Alanis Morissette kind of day — you know, like rain on your wedding day or perhaps a black fly in your chardonnay?
Here are a few times Louisvilians might have been caught in a bad mood:
- You’ve heard the phrase “raining on our parade?” How about snow on Derby Day? It happened on the first Saturday in May in 1989.
- Speaking of rain... Maybe the survey captured the mood of some Louisvillians after Jack Harlow had to cancel the second day of his Gazebo Festival.
- Maybe we were thinking about some of the iconic places and beloved businesses we’ve lost over the years — heartbreak does strange things to people.
In LOU, we try to be considerate of your time, so we will wrap this up quick. Louisville is kind and compassionate — just ask Louisvillians. We annually give for good, and we’re always looking for ways to volunteer. We’re generous with our time and we love random acts of kindness.
Louisville is rude? We know better than that.
