Louisville Water began in 1860 with a mission to provide clean, reliable water + support fire protection.

Visionaries Theodore Scowden and Charles Hermany launched the city’s “quest for pure water,” laying a foundation that George Warren Fuller would later build on through landmark filtration experiments.

Their work sparked innovations that shape the organization’s work today, from riverbank filtration to lead line removal and award-winning treatment.

Now, Louisville Water delivers 131 million gallons daily to nearly a million people, all while leading the industry in science and innovation.
