Breaking down the numbers of the Churchill Downs revamp

Nearly a billion dollars is going into revamping Churchill Downs. But where is that money going exactly?

$920 million. That’s the price tag on Churchill Downs’ latest round of capital projects, slated to extend through 2028. Let’s break down the numbers by project.

The Skye Project

  • $455 to $465 million. The amount invested in the section that starts beyond the finish line and extends to the First Turn Club.
  • 11,500. The number of existing uncovered seats that will be replaced with 13,300 upgraded seats.
  • 5-stories. The height of the structure that will replace the existing Skye Terrace.

Conservatory Project

  • $320 to $330 million. The cost of replacing the temporary seats in the infield along the homestretch of the racetrack.
  • 2,100. The number of temporary seats to be replaced.

The final building of the Infield General Admission Project is expected to open by 2028.

Infield General Admission Project

  • $60 to $70 million. The cost of three new amenities buildings.
