Earth Day has been honoring the achievements of the environmental movement and raising awareness to protect Mother Earth since April 22, 1970. There are lots of ways to commemorate the occasion, including these five weekend events around LOU.

Earth Day Trivia, The Parklands

Show off your nature knowledge tonight from 5-8:30 p.m. This free event will have food + drink available for purchase from Gallant Fox Brewing Company and Just Piggin’ Out. Teams must be finalized and registered by 5:45 p.m.

KORS LOVE Earth Day, The Outlet Shoppes of the Bluegrass

Make a purchase of $200 or more at Michael Kors through Saturday, April 22 and receive a reusable KORS LOVES tote.

Party for the Planet, Louisville Zoo

This weekend is recycling weekend, which means you can bring your old documents to the zoo between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Saturday for free shredding. There will also be a ZooPoopyDoo compost sale from 7:30-11:30 a.m.

RESTORE: Healthy Planet, Healthy You, Bernheim Forest

Earth Day festivities from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 22 will celebrate nature’s healing powers + emphasize how conservation and protection of the Earth are at the center of everything at Bernheim. Adopt a tree, create a sand mandala, taste a bike-powered smoothie, and learn how to create a native garden at home.

Earth Day Dinner, Hermitage Farm

Dig into a three-course dinner in the hayloft above Barn8 on Saturday, April 22, at 6 p.m. The night starts with a cocktail hour in the gardens and ends with a special musical performance by The Possum Queens + readings from regional authors and conservationists. Tickets are $125.
