It’s been a long road to get there, but Trellis Brewing is finally open at 827 Logan St. in Smoketown. Here’s a look at how the development brewed:

  • The brewery was announced in 2022, part of a two-phase development for the Merchant’s Ice Tower property at the corner of Logan and Lampton Streets. It was announced that Trellis Brewing would be joined by new craft spirits company Ferncliff Distillery, which took its name from a 19th-century distillery, but no updates have come since on that portion.
  • The following year, the same developer announced a $58 million office and retail building in the Ice Tower itself.
  • Earlier this year, we reported that Trellis construction was well underway, though there was still no opening date.

Now, the big moment has arrived — Trellis is officially open for business. The industrial-style brewery features outdoor seating + an initial menu of wine, three beers, and kombucha. They plan to focus on grain-forward lagers to celebrate Kentucky-grown wheat, barley and rye.

Founders Ryan Reed and Kyle Jahn started Trellis brewing with the goal of fostering community in Smoketown. Trellis’s launch kicks off with that same community spirit — some of the first brews on tap are collaborations with Monnik Beer Company and Gravely Brewing Co., including a 4.5% berry lager + an IPA made with Idaho 7 hops.

Head out to Trellis this weekend to celebrate the opening with beer and food:

  • Friday, June 21, 3-9 p.m. | Food from Three Daughters Food Truck, 5-9 p.m.
  • Saturday, June 22, 3-9 p.m. | Food from Tommy’s Pizza, 5-9 p.m.
  • Sunday, June 23, 3-9 p.m. | No food, so eat before you come out.

If you’re looking to climb the corporate ladder trellis, the new brewery is currently hiring. Standard hours after the grand opening are TBD.

Bonus: Trellis is built on a location with a long beer history. Fehr’s brewed beer on the property as far back as the 1800s.
