Publix is supermarket sweeping Kentucky

The popular chain has announced plans for its 13th store in the state.

Publix is expanding across the state with plans for another store in Louisville’s East End.

Looks like there’s another Pub Sub on the Kentucky horizon.

The ever-expanding supermarket chain Publix has confirmed another Louisville-area location at a former Douglass Hills Walmart Neighborhood Market at Blankenbaker Parkway + Shelbyville Road.

Publix announced its first Kentucky store back in September 2021 + has since been rolling out supermarkets across the state.

Here’s a timeline of Publix in Kentucky so far:

September 2021: Publix announced its first Kentucky store, planned for Louisville’s Terra Crossing shopping center.

December 2021: Publix announced a second Louisville location at the intersection of Ballardsville + Brownsboro Roads.

June 2022: Publix announced its first Lexington store at Fountain Blue on Man o’ War Boulevard + broke ground on its first store in Louisville.

December 2023: Publix announced plans for second store in Lexington at Citation Point + Stockton Way.

January 2024: First Publix store in Louisville opens at 2500 Terra Crossing Blvd.

August 2024: Publix announced plans for a store in Owensboro.

September 2024: Publix announced plans for a store in Elizabethtown.

December 2024: Publix announced another store planned for Hebron in Northern Kentucky.

February 2025: Publix announced another store for Lexington at the Fountain of Palomar.

March 2025: Publix opened its first store in Lexington at Citation Point and its first store in Northern Kentucky in Walton.

May 2025: Publix announced the location of a third Louisville store at Blankenbaker Parkway + Shelbyville Road.

That brings the total of planned + opened stores in Kentucky to 13. Publix is the largest employee-owned company in the US, operating more than 1,400 stores in eight Southeastern states.

Fun fact: Publix borrowed its name from a defunct chain of movie theaters.
