Have you heard? Several West Louisville parks are getting an upgrade as part of a $30 million project. Let’s break down the improvements coming to 6 parks:

Shawnee Learning Center
📍 230 Southwestern Parkway — Shawnee neighborhood
This will be a 2-story learning center for the West Louisville Outdoor Recreation Initiative and will integrate inside + outside, providing spaces for climbing walls and outdoor gatherings. Take a virtual tour.

Chickasaw Park
📍 1200 Southwestern Parkway — Chickasaw neighborhood
Wilderness Louisvillea nonprofit championing Louisville’s natural areas — is restoring the pond at the center of the park. The Olmsted Conservancy plans to renovate a lodge for events + community space.

Elliott Park
📍 630 S. 28th St. — Russell neighborhood
Did you know Elliott Park was designed in 1908? This park is full of history + renovations will include a basketball court, exercise equipment, and a bike station. Check out the 120-page Master Plan.

PlayWorks will be a 1.5 acre experience | Renderings by MKSK

Playworks at Waterfront Park
📍 11th + Rowan streets — Portland neighborhood
PlayWorks will be split into 3 themes — The River, The Big Dig, and The OverLook — paying homage to the Ohio River’s industrial heritage, for children of all ages + abilities. PlayWorks is a 1.5 acre part of the 22-acre expansion planned.

Maple Street Greenspace Project
📍 Maple Street between 26th + Dr. W.J. Hodge streets — California neighborhood
The Louisville Parks Foundation plans to turn this area into a 20-acre park in phases. Give your input + keep up with the plans.

Parkland Plaza
📍 28th and Dumesnil streets — Parkland neighborhood
This project will feature an open lawn, raised platforms, and adaptive reuse play + is a partnership between Parkland residents, Louisville Metro Gov., the Center for Neighborhoods, the Community Foundation of Louisville, and TreesLouisville.
