On the corner of East Jefferson and Wenzel Streets sits Derby City’s first shipping container apartment complex.

It’s easy to drive right past if you’re heading downtown since the Re-Nu Container Homes were designed to match neighboring residences. The complex is located at 1000 E. Jefferson St., right across from the area where the Phoenix Hill Farmers Market + Flea Off Markets take place.

The roughly 5,900-sqft property is home to six apartment units oriented around a courtyard — with two reserved for Airbnbs — made entirely from shipping containers sourced from the ContainerPort Group of Louisville.

Each unit is 600-sqft + made from two containers. Inside you’ll find an in-home washer and dryer, an open concept kitchen, and if you live in one of the upstairs units, you’ll have a balcony facing Jefferson Street with a perfect view for Thunder Over Louisville.

Layouts vary slightly between the upstairs and downstairs units, but the apartments are all one-bed, one bathroom and currently go for $1,200 a month. The Re-Nu Container Homes were developed by Hayfield Realty Group and designed by RJ Ronald Creative Design + Construction
