Over the course of the next week, Louisvillians have 4 opportunities to give comments to the Louisville Metro Government on zoning regulations for child care in the city.

Louisville Metro’s Office of Planning and Design Services is hosting outdoor meetings in order to understand the community’s needs when it comes to accessing child care.

While Louisville Metro cannot regulate how child care businesses operate, it does have the power to change the city’s Land Development Code, which dictates where childcare providers can operate.

Presently, child care centers with 8+ children must operate only in commercial or office zones, which can mean parents must travel far distances from work + home to place their children with caretakers.

The 4 open houses will be held in person at several city parks, with the first session coming up tomorrow. You can make your voice heard during any of these sessions below:

After these sessions, the Office of Planning and Design Services will post its recommendations on its website for a 30-day review period. Community members will again be able to comment on the proposed changes until a public hearing before the Planning Commission.

Once the Planning Commission makes its recommendations, amendments will be reviewed by Metro Council + other localities with zoning authorities.

Can’t make it out to any of the open houses? We’ve got you covered. You can still submit your thoughts, comments + ideas to the city here. You can also contact Planning Coordinator Joel Dock at (502) 574-5860 or shoot him an email.
