The AppHarvest mobile greenhouse is pulling up in Louisville this week, where you’ll have the opportunity to step inside the future of farming on wheels.
As part of the launch of the Fight the Food Fight initiative, the mobile greenhouse will be outside Against the Grain Sandwich Emporium tomorrow from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
The company, which began in Morehead, Kentucky in 2017, utilizes agricultural technology — like recycled rainwater, hybrid lighting + artificial intelligence, to name a few — to advance its mission of building an American-owned food system through well-paying jobs + sustainable farming.
The touring mobile greenhouse is just one way to introduce people in the region to the company. Aboard the truck, you’ll find leafy greens growing hydroponically, exclusive merchandise + limited-edition salsa made from AppHarvest’s Kentucky-based tomato farm.
According to AppHarvest’s 2020 Sustainability Report , the company seeks to plant 12 indoor greenhouses by 2025. Its two other Kentucky greenhouses in Richmond and Berea should reach completion in 2022. This summer, the company broke ground on two more Kentucky-based farms with one in Somerset, which will grow berries + another facility in Morehead to produce leafy greens.
AppHarvest has an eventual goal to plant 45 million pounds of tomatoes each year.
