Derby City golfers love the sport so much, they even play in the dead of winter . They’re also already prepping for the 2024 PGA Championship at Louisville’s Valhalla Golf Club in May 2024.

The annual professional golf tournament at the recently renovated course — designed by retired pro golfer Jack Nicklaus — is expected to attract 200,000+ spectators to LOU. This equates to a $200 million boost to our local economy.

But before you start dreaming of all the celebs you might spot at Valhalla, consider getting a few hits in yourself. Even if you’re new to the game, we’ve rounded up some ways for you to join in on the par-tee.

All-ages clinic

There’s a free youth and adult golf clinic being offered at Shawnee Golf Course at 9 a.m. on Saturday, August 19. Attendees can get golf instruction while enjoying treats from a food truck + shopping at a kidpreneur pop-up shop.

Four-day expo

For a more extensive golf experience, the African American Golf Expo and Forum is coming to the Galt House August 19-22. The $99 registration fee includes exhibits, learning sessions + meetings with golf industry leaders.

Topgolf features pay-by-the-hour bays + food and drink options that are brought to you while you play.

Casual golf games

If you’re not quite ready for a full-blown golf outing, take some practice swings at Top Golf on Oxmoor Lane. Three floors of climate-controlled bays are open year-round, and start at $28 per hour. Or for a smaller-scale, kid-friendly option, check out mini-golf spots like the Putt-Putt Fun Center or Malibu Jack’s . And keep Puttshack in mind — its first Louisville location is slated to open next year.
