Museums in Louisville

Museums are the cultural hubs of Louisville. Whether you’re looking to learn something new about Derby City or plotting a way to spend your Saturday afternoon, here are 12 museums to visit in our city.

History

Frazier History Museum, 829 W. Main St. | $10-$14

Explore three floors of Kentucky history from the immersive Lewis and Clark exhibit to one of the largest collections of historic miniature figurines in the world.

Don’t miss: A pair of overalls that actor George Clooney wore in “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” in the “Cool Kentucky” exhibit.

Portland Museum, 2308 Portland Ave. | Free

This museum chronicles the history of the Portland neighborhood from when it was an independent town in the 19th century to the cultural gem it is today.

Don’t miss: The future immersive children’s museum expansion called AHOY.

The Conrad-Caldwell House is part of the US’ largest collection of Victorian-era homes in Old Louisville.

Conrad-Caldwell House Museum, 1402 St. James Ct. | $11-$20

Take a guided or self-guided tour of this 1893 Richardsonian Romanesque mansion filled with artifacts from the families that lived there through the 1930s.

Don’t miss: Several special events are hosted throughout the year at the house, like the annual Spirit Ball Victorian masquerade.

This 24-hour art gallery boasts 9,000-sqft of exhibition space filled with permanent and loaned art.

Traffic
  • Lanes have reopened on I-64 West between Mellwood Avenue and Breckenridge Lane. Crews finished work early, which included guardrail repair + new asphalt in the Cochrane Tunnel. Next, I-64 East will close from Friday, June 16 to Friday, July 1 as the $13.2 million I-64 rehabilitation project continues.

  • The Office of Sustainability released a Green Resources for Residents guidebook to help Louisvillians live a greener life — and save a buck or two. The free, 15-page booklet shares local programs, best practices, and details financial incentives — like tax credits for electric vehicles.
Concert
  • GRAMMY-nominated singer/songwriter Rufus Wainwright is coming to the Louisville Palace on Saturday, Sept. 30 to kick off the Louisville Orchestra’s Pops season. The show will feature 60 classical musicians alongside Rufus who will sing selections from his “Want” albums. Tickets go on sale this Friday, June 16 at 10 a.m.

  • Bust out your platform shoes and tube tops. The Speed After Hours event this Friday, June 16 is all about the 1990s. A vintage clothing pop-up, 1990s DJ set, and live band karaoke promise to make the night totally rad. Tickets are $20.

2023 Kentuckiana Pride Festival

This year’s Kentuckiana Pride Parade & Festival is set to take place at the Big Four Bridge on Saturday, June 17 from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. Here’s what you need to know ahead of the big day.

Hotel Genevieve Pride Brunch

Start the day with a pre-parade brunch at this NuLu hotel’s restaurant, Rosettes.
  • Special guests: Leah Halston + Gilda Wabbit
  • Drink: $5 mimosas and bloody marys

Pride parade

The Kentuckiana Pride Parade serves as the kick off to the festival.
  • Cost: Free
  • Route: Starts at 12 p.m. in NuLu at the intersection of Campbell and Market Streets, goes down Preston Street, and ends at the Big Four Lawn

The festival

More than 20,000 people are estimated to attend this celebration, which features a vendor marketplace, drag shows, concerts + food and drinks.
