History

This museum chronicles the history of the Portland neighborhood from when it was an independent town in the 19th century to the cultural gem it is today.

Conrad-Caldwell House Museum, 1402 St. James Ct. | $11-$20
Take a guided or self-guide tour of this Richardsonian 1893 Romanesque mansion filled with artifacts from the families that lived there through the 1930s.
Don’t miss: Several special events are hosted throughout the year at the house, like the annual Spirit Ball Victorian masquerade.
Roots 101 African American Museum, 124 N. 1st St. | $8-$14
This museum was named one of the top 20 museums in the world for its collection of exhibits about the achievements, cultural contributions, and experiences of African Americans.
Thomas Edison House, 729 E. Washington St. | $3-$5
See the house where the famous inventor lived when he was 19-years-old and worked as telegrapher for Western Union. Guided tours are available Tuesday-Thursday.
Arts
Speed Art Museum, 2035 S. 3rd St. | $10-$10, free on Sundays

One of the Museum Row originals since 1977, this science museum boasts three floors of interactive exhibits + a four-story IMAX theater.
