Here’s what TARC’s next phase will look like

Big changes are coming to TARC next year.

Under the new plan, 97% of current boardings will still be within 1/2 mile of service.

After years of planning and several rounds of public input, TARC has unveiled its new route redesign — but it won’t go into effect for another year or so.

The New TARC Network is set to roll out in August, 2026. The redesign includes a focus on downtown routes + an increase to high demand areas, but an overall decrease in service. Let’s take a look at some of the key features of the new plan:

  • All JCPS magnet schools will be served during bell times
  • 5% more jobs will be accessible by bus
  • A reduction in service in Middletown, Jeffersontown, and the southern parts of Jefferson County
  • More frequent service on corridors like Bardstown Road, Preston Highway, and Dixie Highway
  • An all new numbering system — so be ready to study up on the new map

The new plan is designed to remedy declining transit access resulting from TARC’s budget shortfalls.
