Well, Louisville, it looks like we’ll have to wait another year to eat brains together again. Louisville’s annual Zombie Attack — which was scheduled for this evening— has been postponed until 2022 due to COVID-19.
The local tradition invites Louisvillians to dress up in their finest zombie attire and take a walk, or stagger, down Bardstown Road. Groaning optional. The event started in 2005 + in years past has attracted more than 40,000 zombies.
In addition to concerns about COVID-19, organizers said in a Facebook post that they were unable to secure enough off-duty sheriffs to supervise the event. The Louisville Metro Office of Special Events requires public gatherings of 500 people or more to have a police presence.
While we’ll miss the familiar moans of the reanimated, we won’t give up on zombie glory that easily. Instead, here’s our favorite zombie plus 4 more from past events.
Still feel like dressing up? We’d love to see your undead looks. Send us your zombie pics or post them on social media with #LOUtoday in the caption. We might feature them in the newsletter.
1. Colonel Sanders
We would be absolutely remiss if zombie Colonel Sanders didn’t appear here. Call that KZC — Kentucky Zombified Chicken.
The Colonel Sanders zombie is a treat every year. Those secret 11 herbs + spices really did a number on our local chicken king. What local celeb would you like to see undead in 2022?
2. A makeup artist’s moment
For local makeup artists, the annual Zombie Attack is the perfect time to have fun with prosthetics + show off those horror makeup skills.
3. Besties of the undead
A regular sight to see at the Zombie Attack are groups of friends staggering down the streets together. It’s almost like a normal Friday night on Bardstown Road, almost.
4. Mother of… Zombies?
Louisvillians not only dress up as their zombified selves but as the zombie versions of pop culture icons as well. Seen here are zombie versions of Daenerys Targaryen + Cersei Lannister from “Game of Thrones.”
5. Groaning down the street
The Zombie Attack, which usually occurs down a mile-long stretch of Bardstown Rd., was set to frighten NuLu this year, so we’re digging this classic Highlands zombie that embodies all the undead vibes of previous zombie attacks.
