Fish and spaghetti: Enso reopens on Frankfort Avenue

Enso is back in business with a few new menu additions.

A bowl of crispy fried catfish served over noodles with basil sits on a wooden table. Next to the bowl is a black menu, a pair of wooden chopsticks, and a white ceramic sake bottle with a matching cup. A glass of water and a fork are also partially visible on the left side. The setting suggests a cozy, modern dining experience with Japanese fusion cuisine.

This Japanese and Southern fusion restaurant temporarily closed after a fire in October 2024, but now, Enso is back and with a few new menu items to boot — like fish and spaghetti.

You read that right. Fish and spaghetti, a three-way culinary fusion where Japanese, Southern, and Italian cuisine come together in one bowl for an unexpected comfort meal. So, what’s in it? Ramen noodles covered in a tomato-basil sauce are topped with a fried piece of catfish. Just order it already.

Two skewers of crispy, golden-brown fried bites are served on a black plate over a smear of green sauce. The skewers are topped with a colorful slaw of pickled carrots and daikon. A small carrot garnish the plate, suggesting a thoughtfully plated appetizer.

The panko rabbit skewers are garnished with the cutest carrot we’ve ever seen.

Fish and spaghetti is just one of the new dishes from chef Lawrence Weeks. In addition to Enso favorites, like the Japanese potato salad, Japanese fried chicken, and matcha cheesecake, here’s what to order:

  • Hamachi crudo: Similar to sashimi, sliced raw yellowtail topped with sesame oil, benne seed gomashio, scallions, and yuzu marmalade
  • Pork tankatsu steak: 14-oz breaded and deep-fried pork topped with Japanese coleslaw, redeye gravy, and bulldog sauce this one’s rich, y’all
  • Panko rabbit skewers: served with pea puree and a ginger-carrot slaw

And for the Chappell Roan fans? The Pink Pony Club is the cocktail version of “I’m gonna keep on dancing” — made with rose, nigori sake, lemon, pink peppercorns, and egg white.

Enso is open Tuesday-Saturday, 5-10 p.m. + don’t miss happy hour 5-6 p.m.
