Meet Pumpkins For Pigs, a Virginia-based organization founded to reroute leftover pumpkins and other items to farms, sanctuaries, and rescues for feed or compost. What began with 10 local partners has grown into 600+ drop-off sites across the US and Canada.
How you can donate

How to give back
Food takes center stage on Thanksgiving, but not everyone in Derby City has access -- you can help change that. | Photo courtesy Dare to Care
With the holidays coming up, an increase in need for food assistance, and the recent tragedy at UPS, many Louisvillians are looking for ways to give back. Earlier this week, we brought you some places you can donate food to help your neighbors in need. Today we have some ways to help by donating your time.
Dare to Care | Fight hunger in the community when you volunteer at one of Dare to Care’s 300 food pantries or kitchens. You can also assist shoppers at the Mobile Market, sort food in a warehouse + distribute meals.
Feed Louisville | Help make the 1,000 meals produced in Feed Louisville’s headquarters Monday through Friday. You can help by cooking during regular hours, joining the night kitchen team, or helping distribute meals + perform outreach.
The Table | Work a shift as a server or cook at this pay-what-you-can restaurant in the Portland neighborhood.

My heart goes out to anyone impacted by this week’s tragedy at the airport. We will keep you posted as opportunities to support and honor those affected most directly arise. Until then, I’ll be spending an extra few minutes hugging my cats, my partner, and my friends, and I hope you’ll do the same.
Take a page out of George Bailey’s book and spend some time resting in the sun.
