The Broadway Master Plan has a new name: Broadway All The Way.The project’s goal is to transform the 192-year-old roadway from Southwestern Parkway in Shawnee all the way to Baxter Avenue in the Highlands. That’s 10 miles.
In September, the project, which initially launched in 2022, got an injection of life with a $5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation through its RAISE Planning Grant program.
With those funds as backing, Broadway All The Way is considering some major changes, prioritizing safety, access, and equity for everyone, including pedestrians, cyclists, public transportation users, and drivers. Potential changes include:
Bus lanes, to increase the dependability + regularity of TARC routes
Bike lanes, to allow cyclists access to roadway
Traffic calming measures like medians + planted shrubs, to discourage speeding
In its grant proposal, Broadway All They Way officials said they hope that a plan could be complete by August 2025.
