Butchertown is among the most “up-and-coming” neighborhoods in America
Part of what makes Butchertown is its architecture, including its plentiful shotgun homes. | Photo by LOUtoday
The street names in Butchertown have a presidential flair. Fun fact: Neighborhood bowling alley Vernon Lanes was named for Mount Vernon, the home of George Washington?
Another reason that Butchertown really shines brightly: Thomas Edison once lived there. The inventor of the light bulb called Washington Street home when he was a teenage telegrapher for Western Union.
As the name implies, the neighborhood was historically home to Louisville’s meatpacking industry. Now, Louisville’s best pizza crust is a resident.
Last weekend, I stopped by Trellis Brewing (827 Logan St.) for the first time since it opened. As the parent of a 10-month-old, when I say the front porch swings there came in handy around nap time, you know its true. Oh, and the brews were good too — the Not a Pale Ale IPA was worth a second sip.
