Kids, this is the story of how I met your mother, and it was all thanks to LOUtoday.
OK, so maybe that’s not exactly how the 2000s sitcom went, but if Ted Mosby had consulted us for date night ideas, we could’ve shaved the show down to two seasons (and saved his kids a lot of time). Regardless, whether you’ve met “the one” or are hoping to impress someone new, we’ve got local date night ideas that are legen — wait for it — dary.
If the way to their heart is through their stomach
Bring bae to bar Vetti for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. With a full bar, extensive cocktail menu, and decadent dessert list, you can be sure that neither of you will leave hungry.
Reserve a corner table in Bourbon Bistro‘s dimly lit dining room, or save a seat by the wood-burning fireplace during cooler months. Either way, this Clifton spot offers all the romantic feels.
Head to Union Restaurant and GameYard for a night of cornhole, giant Jenga, Connect4, and more.

The things we’d do for free food
We want free bologna sandwiches for life
We like the chicken tinga torta — but changing our names to “Taco Luchador” seems like too much of a commitment. | Photo by LOUtoday
You may have heard that it’s National Sandwich Month, and Subway is offering one superfan the chance to win free sandwiches for life — all they have to do is legally change their name to “Subway.”
We’re gonna pass on this particular contest, but it did get us thinking about which Louisville restaurants could convince us to pull a similar stunt.
Here’s what we’d change our names to:
Lennie: “Sarino, Paseo, or Volare. I think people from Louisville would immediately make the connection, but anyone else would just think I had an unusual name.”
Katie: “First name ‘Big Al’s’, last name ‘Beeritaville.’ I would also be willing to go by Morris Deli or Vietnam Kitchen.”
Now, we want to know what you think. Which local restaurant would you be willing to change your name to, in exchange for a lifetime supply of its food? Tell us your hypothetical moniker here.
I had a lot of fun writing the date night guide above. It is by no means an exhaustive list, but I hope it gives you some ideas for an exciting excursion with your significant other.
There’s still lots of other fun to be had this summer, too — whether you’re coupled up or single. I’m planning to catch a flick at an outdoor theater soon, and I definitely want to stop by some of the upcoming festivals and fairs.
