Houses are a hot topic — whether we’re living in them or just looking at them. One Louisville house in particular has been getting a lot of attention.
The newly constructed, three-bedroom, three-and-a-half bathroom abode at 1104 Saint Michael St. is the talk of the town. Germantown, that is. Its ultra-modern exterior has been garnering long looks from passersby and strong opinions from area residents.
The house features a stucco exterior, in-ground pool, premium finishes, and unique interior art. With its open floor plan + gourmet kitchen, it seems to have been built for entertaining. So what’s the problem?
According to the home’s listing agent, Carrie King, people have been calling it an eyesore, saying it doesn’t fit in with the rest of the houses in the neighborhood. But they’ve also been stopping by to take selfies in front of the one-of-a-kind house.
“We have received as much support as we have [comments from] neighbors that have voiced any concern,” Carrie said. “It’s definitely been a great conversation piece.”
The interior of the house boasts graffiti art meant to give the space a subway-like feel.

S.B. “The Builder” Duncan — an avid art lover and the brain behind the creation — acknowledges that the house looks different from others in the area. In fact, that was his goal.
“It’s a unique house because I’m a unique individual,” he said, explaining that he drew inspiration for the home’s design from his travels, incorporating looks from Los Angeles, like graffiti-style artwork to mimic the subway.
"[I’m] bringing L.A. to Louisville,” he said. "[This house] is my first art piece.”

I’ve been writing about homes since I graduated from college in Hawaii. One of my favorite things about moving to Louisville was seeing the plethora of home styles + the many historic homes around town. I think that like people, every house is special in its own way.
