Last week, Louisville Metro officials + representatives from conservation group Trees Louisville unveiled the start of the Louisville Tree Plan , an Urban Forest Master Plan that will grow Derby City’s tree canopy.
Why are trees so important? They provide a cooling effect that helps combat Louisville’s urban heat island, reduce heat related deaths, and support public health.
The plan will conduct research through community engagement, interviews, data analysis, and workshops over the spring and summer before creating the full plan this fall. Implementation of the plan will begin next year.
