Happy trails

Waterfall over rocks
The best time to visit Tioga Falls is after rain in the springtime. | Photo by LOUtoday
Spring is finally here, after a couple of false starts. If you’re itching to get out and enjoy it, check out one of these Louisville area hiking trails.

Anchorage Trail | Difficulty: 🥾
This 10-foot wide, paved path begins with a herringbone brick walk before it winds through open fields and along Willow Lake + ends under a light tree canopy.

Tioga Falls Trail | Difficulty: 🥾🥾
Owned by the US Army Fort Knox, this trail is occasionally closed for military training. But when its not, the uphill hike to the base of its three-tiered, 130-ft waterfall is a must — plus, you get to cross railroad tracks.

Rose Island Loop | Difficulty: 🥾🥾🥾
Located 20 miles north of downtown Louisville, this loop descends to the site of an early 20th-century amusement park and resort. During the hike, you can see remnants of the park like a swimming pool, bear cage, and walkway arches.

You may have spotted an escargatoire of pink snails — that’s the word for a group of snails, look it up — around Louisville this week. The giant pink mollusks are part of an art exhibition raising awareness + funds for the Norton Cancer Institute’s Breast Health Program. (WHAS11)

The Buy

Self-care isn’t all spa days and forest bathing — although we do love a nice hot stone massage. More often than not, it’s the simple things like prioritizing rest, practicing good hygiene, and practicing mindfulness. Elevate your self-care rituals with these five products:

🧤 Treat your skin to a little TLC with this best-selling exfoliating glove that removes dead skin + cleans pores.
🛏️ Look forward to snuggling into bed every night thanks to these luxury bamboo sheets with cooling properties.
🫖 Pair your new sheets with this herbalist-formulated chamomile tea to help wind down before bed.
🚿 Turn your shower into an aromatherapy escape with this top-rated pack of shower steamers.
🧦 When you’re craving comfort + relaxation, don this heated blanket hoodie.

The Wrap

This week I attended the launch party for Dwain Lee’s new novel, “Sinner’s Prayer.” We got a tour of the real church that served as the inspiration for the one in the book, the beautiful Springdale Presbyterian Church. The book is now officially available in-store at Carmichael’s.
