Happy Lunar New Year

Today marks the first new moon of the lunar calendar, and that means it’s Lunar New Year. In honor of this annual celebration, here are two local events ringing in the year of the fire horse this weekend.

Lunar New Year Dinner & Auction Gala | Saturday, Feb. 21
The Asia Institute Crane House will hold its annual gala at the Speed Museum again this year. You’ll get a five course meal from local chefs along with tea + cocktail pairings. Tickets start at $298, and the event begins at 5:30 p.m.

Lunar New Year Celebration | Sunday, Feb. 22
Starting at 10 a.m., the Buddha Blessed Temple on 3rd Street Road will host a celebration with prayer, food, fireworks, and live performances. This event is free and open to all.

Louisville’s Office of Violence Prevention is now offering “Love Your Block” micro-grants between $100 and $5,000 to Shawnee, Chickasaw, Parkland, Russell, and California residents, groups, and associated organizations. Any project to improve the neighborhood, big or small, is eligible.

Bourbon & Beyond has posted another cryptic animated video teasing the upcoming lineup announcement. This time, fans speculate that Queens of the Stone Age will be on the docket. The full lineup is slated to drop tomorrow — we’ll bring you the highlights in Thursday morning’s newsletter.
