The 411 on 311

If you’re drowning in extra garbage and recycling post-holidays, Metro 311 has you covered. Here are just a few of the services you can request.

Large item pickup appointment

Louisville residents in the Urban Services District can schedule up to four large items for trash pickup each week. That’s anything that won’t fit in your curbside trash can. Large item pickup only covers single items — no boxes of small items, yard waste, or construction materials.

Missed services

If your garbage or recycling is missed, report it to 311 and crews will be by within 72 hours.

Garbage/recycling container requests

If your garbage or recycling bin goes missing, you can request a replacement. While you wait, you can use your own container, provided it meets the following parameters:
  • 30-40 gallon container with two handles and a lid
  • Clearly marked “Garbage” or “Recycling” — stickers are available from the Metro Solid Waste office on Meriwether Avenue.

The Wrap

Here are some questions I’m thinking about this year:
  • What’s going to happen to Mid City Mall?
  • What did famous historical figures think of Louisville? (I know Charles Dickens was not a fan).
  • What’s the story behind this concrete bust over the door to Asahi Japanese Restaurant on Lexington Road?
