The TARC 2025 proposals will be finalized by the end of the summer. | Photo via TARC
After years of planning and several rounds of public input, TARC has unveiled its new route redesign — but it won’t go into effect for another year or so.
The New TARC Network is set to roll out in August 2026. The redesign includes a focus on downtown routes + an increase to high demand areas, but an overall decrease in service. Let’s take a look at some of the key features of the new plan:
All JCPS magnet schools will be served during bell times
5% more jobs will be accessible by bus
A reduction in service in Middletown, Jeffersontown, and the southern parts of Jefferson County
More frequent service on corridors like Bardstown Road, Preston Highway, and Dixie Highway
An all new numbering system — so be ready to study up on the new map
The new plan is designed to remedy declining transit access resulting from TARC’s budget shortfalls.
