Louisville’s kids are back in schoolbut why should they have all the fun? Derby City is full of opportunities for life-long learners to pick up new skills, explore a new hobby, or improve on what they already know.

We’ve rounded up a list of classes to fill your schedule this semester. Think of us as your LOU guidance counselor.

🎨 Art

Preston Arts Center
If you’re interested in taking your art to the next level, consider a multi-session class in oils, watercolors, or acrylics. You can also drop by for single-session workshops like Bob Ross animal painting, clay gnomes, and stained glass.

📖 English

A Novel Romance
This romance bookstore hosts multiple book clubs each week where you can meet and discuss with like-minded readers — and maybe finally crack the secret of why the curtains were blue.

🥃 Home economics

Liquor Lab
Level up your home bartending skills with cocktail classes paired with small bites.

🏃‍♀️ P.E.

Louisville Parks and Rec
Your local community center probably offers yoga, zumba, weight training, or sports leagues. These classes are often free of charge, and some community centers have open-play hours so you can practice at your own pace.

The Wrap

Have you seen a lot of sweat bees recently? Those are probably hover flies, small insects that might land on you this time of year looking to replenish their electrolytes with some salty sweat. These bugs are “incredible pollinators” according to entomologist Kristie Reddick, and their larva eat common pests.
