Horse trainer D. Wayne Lukas died this week at age 89, eight days after retiring from a career that spanned four decades. Lukas was an 11-time champion trainer with 20 Breeder’s Cup race wins. (WHAS11)

This week, Mayor Greenberg announced the new Drones as First Responders (DFR) program, part of the 2026 Louisville budget. The remotely operated drones will assist firefighters in assessing structures before they enter, among other tasks. DFR is expected to launch in spring of 2026.

21st in Germantown will reopen in 30 days as part of an agreement reached with the Metro ABC. The Schnitzelburg bar will no longer have a 4 a.m. license, and will close at 2 a.m., at the latest, once it reopens.
Community
Residents of the Newburg neighborhood have started a petition for the Louisville Metro Council to recognize Vernita Brown with a street name or community center rename. Brown has been volunteering with community groups in Newburg for over 30 years. (LPM)
