Traveling by plane is fun — jet-setting over beautiful blue waters or rolling hills, taking in cloud formations, and landing in a completely different location in a matter of hours is unlike anything else.
We’re here to help make your time at the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF) as smooth as possible.
What to know
TSA | According to the SDF website, officials recommend arriving 1.5 hours prior to a domestic flight and 2 hours for flights to international destinations. Pro tip: Register for TSA pre-check, and make the security lines a breeze.
Reminder | You now need a REAL ID to board commercial flights in the US. Learn how to get one.

If you’ve never taken the firefly hike at Bernheim Forest, you owe it to yourself to go — it’s literally magical.
You’ll take a short walk through the arboretum, spotting different kinds of fireflies (or lightning bugs, if you prefer). The hike finishes in a field surrounded by trees, which are lit by thousands of blinking fireflies. Plus, a nighttime hike is the perfect way to get out and about while dodging this heat wave.
