📚 Welcome back, Parkland Library

Louisville’s Parkland neighborhood has been without a public library branch since the 1980s, when the neighborhood’s Louisville Free Public Library (LFPL) branch shut its doors. Now, nearly 40 years and $6.5 million later, the community space is opening its doors once again.

The Parkland Library’s grand reopening will be on Thursday, February 27 at 10:30 a.m.

In Parkland, 28% of the of the 21,289 households don’t own a car — so there was a major need for a local local library.

The new $6.5 million project included a full renovation of the original library space, plus a 3,000-sqft modern addition and an added makerspace + elevator.

The fun really begins on Saturday, March 1 with a Family Fun Day running 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Ring in the branch’s return with free activities, performances, and giveaways.

The Parking Authority of River City, or PARC, is Louisville’s public parking body. It operates 15 garages and four lots in and around Louisville’s downtown — that’s between York Street, I-65, and 10th Street — and oversees other parking rules and regulations around Derby City.

We’ve rounded up the need-to-know details on PARC services, rules, and more.

Parking services

If you spend a lot of time downtown, there’s a good chance you park in a PARC lot a lot. Parking in one of them entitles you to certain services, including:
  • Jump starts
  • Lock out service
  • Air compressor service
  • Escorts to your vehicle
To use any of these services, call 587-PARK. Pro tip: Save the number in your phone for the next time you’re at a concert downtown.

The Wrap

declan_headshot
The Illinois band The Ex-Bombers is donating all revenue from its song “Get the Experience” for the rest of the month to No Kill Louisville, a nonprofit dedicated to helping homeless animals. It’s the first time their music is available online.

But it doesn’t stop there: If the song hits a Billboard chart, they’ll sponsor a dog or cat at the Kentucky Humane Society. If it reaches the Top 10, they’ll come to Louisville and adopt a dog of their own. Let’s get listening, LOU.
