News Notes
Opening
  • Another Kentucky distillery is bringing its bourbon to NuLu this fall. Franklin County-based Whiskey Thief Distilling Co. is opening a tasting experience in the former Flying Axes space behind The Last Refuge. Named after the tool used to pull bourbon out of a barrel, people will be able to steal and bottle their own bourbon.
Outdoors
  • The Tom Wallace Recreation Area at Jefferson Memorial Forest is back open, following its recent $2.7 million improvement project, but there’s still more work to do. A new pavilion will be installed next month followed by a new playground in the spring. A grand opening will be held in at the end of September — details to come.
Watch
  • Last week on ABC’s “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” with actor Jason Ritter + comedian Natasha Legerro, the $125,000 question was: “Since 2002, which US City has displayed giant portraits on its buildings honoring hometown heroes like Diane Sawyer, Jennifer Lawrence, and Jack Harlow?” Spoiler alert: They used a lifeline.
Eat
  • The Silver Dollar is under new ownership, and now has a revamped menu. The Frankfort Avenue bar + restaurant went up for sale last year. The new menu includes items like birria tacos, a black bean burger, and an heirloom tomato sandwich. The Silver Dollar is open Tuesday through Sunday.
Active
  • Full Stop Station and Pure Barre Cherokee Park are teaming up for a free pop-up barre class. On Thursday, Aug. 29 at 6 p.m., stop by the parking lot at the intersection of Lexington Road + Grinstead Drive to take part in the class while you enjoy food and drinks from Full Stop.
Sports
  • Are you ready Cards fans? It’s game week. Get up to speed on Louisville football with game coverage, analysis, insights, interviews, and more from local experts with Locked On’s daily podcasts ahead of Louisville’s opener on Saturday vs. Austin Peay.
    Today Is
    • International Dog Day. Treat the very good boy or girl in your life to a pup cup (and free belly rubs) at 7 Brew Coffee.*
    Finance
    • Did you know some credit cards can actually help you get out of debt faster? (It sounds wild, but it’s true.) The secret: Find a credit card with a “0% intro APR” period for balance transfers. These are hands down some of the best.*

Want to check it out sooner? You can get a sneak peek of “502" on Friday, Oct. 18 at “Raise the Barre,” a first class fundraising event with proceeds benefiting the Louisville Ballet.

    Additionally, the event will feature:
    • An open bar + hors d’oeuvres
    • Music from two DJs + dancing

That feeling in the pit of your stomach right now? It’s a corn dog craving. The Kentucky State Fair is officially over, so I guess we’ll all have to wait until next August to satisfy it.
