Kentucky is famous for a lot of things: bourbon, Bluegrass music, and college basketball. But the latest rising star is a $10 egg salad sandwich at The Bar at Willett in Bardstown.
The roots of the humble American sandwich date back to the 19th century and follow a similar timeline with the Nelson County distillery where the famous egg salad sandwich was born.
You might be thinking, “What makes this egg salad so good it’s worth a 50-minute drive?”
Well, we’ll let the 55 Yelp reviews dedicated to it do the talking. Here are just a few things people have said:
“This egg salad sandwich was the best sandwich I’ve ever had in my life.”
“The FAMOUS and most life-changing egg salad sandwich peeking through here. GET IT!!!”
“PLEASE, PLEASE get the egg salad. You will thank me later...DAYUM!”
And if you’re still not convinced, it even has its own Instagram page for its 1,300+ loyal following.
The Bar at Willett opened in 2019 and the lauded egg salad sandwich has been a staple menu item since day one. It’s made using local eggs in three different ways: cured, hard boiled, and jammed. Duke’s Mayo plays a tangy role in the recipe + it’s lightly smoked with apple wood. Mix it all together and slather it between two toasted brioche slices and you have the makings of a star.
Open hours are Wednesday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., which means you could definitely take a long lunch break if you tried hard enough. Be sure to make a reservation before taking the trip though — they’re required.

Modjeskas have been made in Louisville since 1921. | Photo by LOUtoday
Today is National Candy Corn Day — but we’re not here to settle the debate about whether the sweet, tricolored kernels are a tasty Halloween candy or not.
Instead, we invite you to bow out of the heated conversation, and opt in for what we think is the best candy of all time.
It’s undoubtedly the Modjeska from Muth’s Candies. The Louisville creation is named after a Polish actress, but the pillowy piece of marshmallow enveloped in sticky caramel is what makes it Muth’s bestselling candy by far.
Hit the button below to learn more about the origin’s of this cherished local confection.
If you were driving down Main Street around 2:30 p.m. on Friday you might have seen me scaling down the side of the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory.
No, I wasn’t bitten by a radioactive spider. LOUtoday was invited to experience the Over the Edge rappeling fundraiser for Down Syndrome of Louisville and Critically Loved ahead of the public event, which happened on Saturday and raised ~$30,000.
