It’s time for the three Bs: brats, beer, and baseball. This summer’s season is packed full of games and events. From fun initiatives like Copa de la Diversión to drink deals, the summer is just heating up for the Bats.
About the team
Around here, we root for the Louisville Bats, the Triple-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. What’s in a name? The Bats have taken on many names — originally known as the Louisville Redbirds in 1982, they rebranded as the Louisville RiverBats in 1999 before taking their final form as the Bats in 2002.
Nowadays the Bats play at the Louisville Slugger Field, located in the heart of downtown.

A new sushi restaurant is coming to NuLu, in the space formerly occupied by Toast on Market. Dubbed Sake A Go Go, the concept is the brainchild of Kevin Grangier, the restaurateur behind the Village Anchor, Le Moo + Grassa Gramma. It is slated to open by September. (Louisville Business First)
Community
Mayor Craig Greenberg is hosting the third Mayor’s Night Out on Tuesday, June 27, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage. Eat
Remember when we had lunch at Swizzle with Master P? His limited-time dish is ending its run on Friday, June 30, but downtown’s spinning restaurant has another new item available. Six-time James Beard-nominated chef Abbi Merriss’s peppered beef carpaccio made with Four Roses Bourbon is being served now through August.
History
Jefferson County Public Schools’ roots date back to the 1800s. The JCPS Archives and Records Center keeps track of thousands of records, including physical items like trophies and yearbooks. The public can call (502) 485-3098 to make donations or contact the department for an appointment to visit the archives. (WHAS11)
Listen
As a supplement to its “Cool Kentucky” exhibition, the Frazier History Museum is curating a Spotify playlist of 120 songs — one song from each county in Kentucky. Songs from ten counties are being added each month, which will bring the playlist to completion this December.
Ranked
Yelp named Copper & Kings Distillery as the must-visit rooftop restaurant and bar in the Commonwealth. The Butchertown spot features cocktails that showcase American brandy + a food menu that’s driven by Kentucky’s seasonally available fare.

There’s something new coming to the Kentucky Science Center. Dubbed “Uniquely Human,” the 6,000-sqft exhibit is the museum’s first new permanent exhibit since 2020.
It took more than four years to develop and features 20+ interactive experiences designed to help visitors discover connections between health and humanity.
Crafted specifically for guests ages 12 to 25, “Uniquely Human” places an emphasis on the importance of mental + emotional health. Part of the exhibit includes a “Mental Health Zone,” complete with a mood room, sand garden, and exercises to encourage people to consider their mental state and its connection to their physical health.
See the exhibit for yourself at its official grand opening and ribbon cutting next Thursday, June 29 at 11 a.m.
I’ve never played baseball — outside of high school gym class — but the game holds a special place in my heart. My sisters and I grew up watching my dad, uncles, and cousins play. And now, I keep up with the Little League from afar because the Hawaii team has been on fire. Now that I’m in LOU, I love going to Bats games. There’s always something fun going on, like post-game fireworks, bingo, or margarita specials.
