Celebrate National Donut Day at North Lime Coffee & Donuts
National Donut Day was established by The Salvation Army in 1938 to honor the Donut Lassies, women who traveled to France to serve donuts to World War I soldiers. | Photo by North Lime Coffee & Donuts
If you’re trying to add more hole foods to your diet, today is your day. June 2 is the first of two annual National Donut Days, and the crew at North Lime Coffee & Donuts is dishing out more fried dough than usual just for the occasion.
Kayla Hawkins, general manager at the Old Louisville location, said that last June the team served ~800 donuts for the celebration. That’s twice as many donuts that go out the door on a typical Friday.
Customers are usually waiting outside before the store opens, and the line is constantly flowing. But don’t worry — Kayla will be ready with extra glazed and sprinkled goodness to ensure the traditional options don’t sell out too quickly.
Pro tip: If you’re looking to get your hands on gluten-friendly flavors, be sure to arrive early as those are in limited supply.
