Join us for a few unbridled spirits. | Graphic by LOUtoday
The cat’s out of the bag — or should we say horse? We’re hosting a LOUtoday after-oaks event and you’re invited.

On Friday, May 5, we’re taking over The Local Seltzery in NuLu (818 E. Main St.) to host a little Derby-time soiree from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. And the best part — aside from meeting the folks who bring you this newsletter every day — it’s free. Here’s how we’re getting down after Churchill Downs:
  • Get 50% off seltzers and cocktails — like the Sparkling Julep and NuLu Lily
  • Enjoy charcuterie boards from Cultured, popcorn, and hummus plates
  • Meet + greet with Katie, Lennie, and Mandey
You hear from us everyday at 6 a.m. in your inbox and see us on social media, and now, we’d love the chance to meet you, so RSVP today — and be sure to tell a friend or two.

News Notes
Ranked
  • Derby City ranked No.15 in the U.S. News and World Report’s “Best Foodie Cities in the U.S.” right behind Atlanta, GA. Only 15 destinations were selected for the list based on innovative dining concepts, awarded restaurants, and culinary diversity. Let’s all grab a bite to eat to celebrate.
Number
  • $7.5 million. That’s how much the Heyburn Building across from The Brown Hotel is being sold for. The 17-floor downtown office tower features neoclassical-style architecture features like marble walls and terrazzo flooring + is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. It’s currently 40% occupied with office + retail tenants. (Louisville Business First)
Civic
  • Mayor Craig Greenberg and the Office of Sustainability are hosting the first-ever Earth Day Town Hall event on Friday, April 21 at Louisville Free Public Library’s Main Branch. Plan Ahead
  • The Frazier History Museum is putting on the ritz for its annual Michter’s Speakeasy party on Thursday, June 22. Tickets are $58 and include bourbon tastings, a complimentary cocktail, jazz music, and food from Bristol Catering. Cocktail or 1920s-themed attire is recommended.

From the editor
I recently learned that the largest tulip poplar tree — aka Kentucky’s state tree — in the Louisville Metro’s park system is at Iroquois Park.

It stands around 120-130-ft tall, has a 16-ft, 5-in circumference, and is somewhere between 100-150 years old.
