Before we fully creep into the spooky season, we wanted to take one last look at September through the lens of the stories + social media content you loved the most. Spoiler alert: bloody buildings, bourbon-themed stays, and German food were a few of your favorite things.
We thought y’all might want to know the story behind a building that seemingly started to bleed overnight, and sure enough, Derby City wanted to get to know Butcher Cabin Books — which opens on Fri., Oct. 14.
Looks like 312 of you have an eye (or at least an interested eye) in design since you all clicked to see this unique window of an apartment above the Old Spaghetti Factory.
Speaking of design — 204 readers also wanted to see what it might look like to sleep inside a glass of bourbon.

For September, our top post was of Butcher Cabin Books. Also our third story for the month, we think it’s safe to say you’re ready for some horror-themed books.

Common puffballs release spores in a smoke-like cloud. | Video by @theparklandsoffloydsfork
The common puffball fungus (Lycoperdon perlatum) goes by many different names — devil’s snuff box, wolf farts, and warted puffball are just a few.
These odd little creatures were found by The Parklands of Floyds Fork off of the Coppiced Woods Trail in Beckley Creek Park.
As you can see, the mushrooms release spores in smoke-like cloud when they’re touched by raindrops or in this case, a stick.
Keep an eye out for more spooky fungi this fall — like this Bleeding Tooth Fungus spotted last year.
Ready to learn more? Stop by The Parkland’s free family program, Fungi Fun Guys, on Sat., Oct. 22 for a guided hike, fungus-themed games, parade + cooking with fungi.
