Your guide to Louisville’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade

From pro tips to paddy parties, it’s your lucky day.

A festive parade float themed "Irish Fivi-O" features people dressed in green and police-themed attire, waving and celebrating. The float is decorated with an Irish flag, gold coins, and cityscape imagery with police badges. A person in a green and white striped prisoner costume with a colorful wig stands at the edge, adding to the lively atmosphere. The parade is taking place on a street lined with leafless trees and a church visible in the background, under an overcast sky.

The St. Patrick’s Day Parade kicks of at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 8.

The 52nd annual Ancient Order of Hibernians’ St. Patrick’s Day Parade is on Saturday, March 8 — and lucky for you, we’ve rounded up the need-to-know parade info, parties, and more. Consider this the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

☘️ Parade pro tips

The route: The parade starts at 3 p.m. on the corner of Broadway and Baxter Avenue (PG&J’s Dog Park Bar), travels 1-mile up Bardstown Road, and ends at Windsor Place (near La Chasse). Bring a chair to post up on a sidewalk along the route + bring a bag to collect candy.

Street closures: 14 Highlands area thoroughfares will be closed from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., including notable streets like Broadway, Grinstead Drive, and Barret Avenue.

Parking: Street parking on nearby side streets is your best bet, but be sure to double check no parking zones and get to the area at least an hour early to start scoping out spots. You can also try your luck at two public parking lots in Paristown.

Four stylishly dressed people pose in front of a retro brown van with "Ponyboy Slings" written on the side. The group appears to be at an outdoor event, wearing vintage and eclectic outfits, including fur-lined coats, a red leather trench coat, a denim jacket, and a wide-brimmed hat. They are accessorized with sunglasses, beaded necklaces, and buttons. The van has a classic, custom design with wood paneling and a hexagonal window, adding to the nostalgic aesthetic. The group is smiling and standing closely together.

Keep an eye out for Ponyboy Slings’ Ponywagon in the parade this year.

☘️ Paddy parties

“The Irish Triangle” — O’shea’s Irish Pub, Molly Malone’s Irish Pub, and Flannagan’s Ale House — will without a doubt be buzzing during the parade with outdoor bars, drink specials, and live music, but here are few other parties to shamrock and roll.
