A $250 million development could be headed to Slugger Field

Louisville’s baseball stadium could soon have some new neighbors — a hotel, offices, and retail.

The new development would add a new residential + retail district just outside right field.

Mayor Craig Greenberg + Louisville Bats owners Diamond Baseball Holdings announced a new home plate for downtown: A $250 million development that would replace the parking lot east of Louisville Slugger Field.

The proposed 500,000-sqft development would include:

  • ~200 residential units
  • A ~170-room boutique hotel
  • Retail, office, and restaurant space
  • Additional parking space
  • A new entrance to Louisville Slugger Field

This project is not out of the park just yet — the developers are awaiting approval + input from the Waterfront Development Board, the state government, the City of Louisville, and the real MVP: you.

“What are people in Louisville looking for from that commercial space? Is it all restaurant? Is it retail? Is it some unique office space?” Mayor Greenberg said in a press conference Monday.

Greenberg added that he expects the project could be “shovel ready” in around one year.

Is this announcement a home run for downtown, or is this a swing and a miss? Here’s what our Instagram followers have to say:

  • “I don’t hate it but like at last add a parking garage in to accommodate for the spots already being eliminated. Parking is tight enough as it is on game days.” - @adamwack
  • “This looks awesome!” - @belobraydic
  • “Why not make it something like ballpark village at the St. Louis cardinals stadium?” - @alexbfresh
