This weekend, make like a tree and leaf (the house) to celebrate Arbor Day — a couple of weeks early — with the annual TreeFest on Saturday, April 11 at Thurman-Hutchins Park.
From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., TreeFest will include educational events rooted in experiencing nature.
Kick things off with an invasive plant removal at 11 a.m.
Learn about the sounds of plants in a workshop at 12 p.m.
Bring your binocs for a birding hike starting at 12:30 p.m., plus a second, family-friendly birding hike at 2 p.m.
Enjoy crafts, rock climbing, food, and live music throughout the festival.
Volunteers will be planting trees throughout the park all day. Register if you’d like to branch out and lend a hand — lunch will be provided.

Trellis Brewing is opening a full kitchen starting this Friday, April 10. Trellis Foods will be led by former Red Hog chef James Andrews, and will serve hot dogs, burgers, and a weekend brunch featuring new cocktails.

Ale-8-One teased the return of its peach flavor back on April Fools’ Day, but has now announced that that was no prank. The company posted a series of photos on Facebook showing the peachy beverage rolling off the production line.

A Ballard High School alum-turned Angels player made baseball history this week with a record three robbed home runs in a game against the Seattle Mariners. Jo Adell caught three separate balls that were headed over the wall to help propel his team to a narrow 1-0 victory.

Did you know? The Olmsted Parks Conservancy was founded 52 years ago this month in the fallout of the notorious 1974 tornado that devastated Cherokee Park, among other locations in Louisville.

Local high school students can submit an essay to this year’s Juneteenth Essay Contest any time before Friday, May 1. This year’s theme is “What Does Juneteenth Mean to You?” and students are invited to explore how we can learn from the past to change the future.
